One can’t research population issues without discovering the appalling way many women are suffering in regard to their reproductive health. Clearly the reproductive issues of the affluent have the most impact on methane, CO2 levels, species extinction, etc. But we cannot continue to pretend that high pregnancy rates in poorer parts of the world come solely from a desire for large families. In fact the unmet need for reproductive healthcare often makes pregnancy as terrifying as it is inevitable.
While third-world maternal mortality may not be obviously linked to climate change, environmentalism is first and last about the next generation. The children being born today, whether into poverty or wealth, as orphans or with doting parents, will face all the usual trials of the world – PLUS fewer resources, more toxins, and a warmer planet.
